| back to JP benefit subdirectory FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Author/Teacher Jeannine Parvati Baker Hospitalized for Hep C Provo, Utah — January 17, 2005 Much-loved author and teacher Jeannine Parvati Baker is presently undergoing urgent care in the Utah Valley Regional Hospital in Provo, Utah. She is suffering from complications of Hepatitis C, which she has been battling for over a year. She has been put on a waiting list for a liver transplant. European medical authorities have recently identified Hepatitis C as a risk factor after administration of Rhogam, the drug given to pregnant women for Rh incompatibility. Ms. Parvati Baker received Rhogam in 1970 and believes she is one of the thousands of women who became carriers of Hepatitis C from this source. She has been undergoing nutritional and herbal therapies as well as receiving conventional medical treatment in battling relapses of Hepatitis C. Due to illness, Ms. Parvati Baker has cancelled nearly all her teaching engagements this past year and is no longer able to earn income. Her family and friends are requesting financial pledges in any amount to assist with household maintenance and specialized healthcare. Monthly pledges are especially appreciated. Also needed are in-home care providers who can offer domestic services (massage, cooking and cleaning), help with Hygieia College email and web work, and help with Jeannine’s health care. There is comfortable lodging next door provided at Hygieia House for all caregivers (ideally staying a week or longer).
