| Every season brings us new ways of understanding inter-species communication as well as fresh ways to illuminate our personalized cooperative growth & learning curves. Winter is an excellent time to make a special note of Spirit Loops in the naked tree limbs. I first learned about these loops through study of Marko Pogacnik's work, especially Nature Spirits & Elemental Beings: Working with the Intelligence in Nature. Above are examples of loops from two different guardian maple trees on my property. what the loops mean: According to Pogacnik, the limbs bend as a result of energetic force emanating from the medicine spirit of the plant. This energy pushes the branches into circular shapes as a way of conveying a tree spirit's superior level of intelligence. Often trees with such limbs make an excellent spot for establishing an outdoor Gaia altar or making less formal prayers and offerings. Always pay special attention to dreams of trees with spirit loops; particularly when the dream-trees also exist in your daily practical world. where to look for the loops: First do some neck exercises to loosen and lengthen your muscles! Look upwards and establish an eye scanning pattern that's most comfortable for a careful study of the branches. It's usually easiest to spot curved tree branches in hardwoods - especially while they're bare of leaves. Many people get a strong intuitive sense of which trees have loops hidden in their bows; most of my students begin their search with trees that are already significant/sacred in some way. Examine the branches of any tree that speaks strongly to you. Draw or photograph the loops you discover for inclusion on your altar space or tucked inside your pillowcase as a dreamtime ally.
