June 24, 2008 That old saw about expecting the unexpected has been one of the most consistent aspects of the past year's growth and learning curves here in Sparkling Lotus-land. In early winter, just when I thought I understood what it meant to authentically "expect" that which was previously unimagined, a series of personal health issues falling beyond my established fields of expertise gave me a whole new appreciation and respect for the flower essences' healing capabilities. Throughout the past six months these powerful vibrational agents have rallied around me just as I myself have rallied in order to embrace the lessons and backhanded gifts that often find us when we're looking for something else entirely. It's not as if I went into the experience with a spotty awareness or cavalier attitude towards flower remedies. I've held them in very high esteem for the better part of three decades. Reaching the point of active co-creation more than a dozen years ago increased that esteem to the point of authentic awe and amazement. And yet ... there's always more to learn. There's always more to feel and, within that feeling process, more to gain by way of healing insight and experience. I'm certainly not the only person who has spent the past year facing profound shifts in terms of what both "insight" and "experience" have come to mean to the overall process of personal refinement. In my case I have moved from a primary focus on how essences respond to the needs of others to the same point(s) of focus in relation to myself. For quite awhile it's been my very firm belief that this type of shift is utterly necessary if we're to remain on top of our innate gifts and acquired acumen as healers. Holding a belief is a good sight easier than putting it to the test of practice and process! One of the most important things I have learned in the past several months is that our instincts need to be as sharp and multi-dimensional as we can possibly make them. To accomplish this we need humility in equal measure to confidence. We need to understand that we are not nearly as special and "apart" as we may feel. And, most certainly, we are not exempt from universal reality checks and wake-up calls. Any creative person knows that complacency is, on many levels, certain death to the alchemical process of Doing & Making. Any co-creative person needs to absorb a corollary awareness that lack of curiosity can be just as deadly to the alchemical process of alchemy itself. During the past year I did not actively work on this website but I did meditate about it a lot and also did my share of visiting various parts of the site. As the year progressed circumstances gave me several opportunities to evaluate how the space might be best revitalized and serve a useful purpose for those who visit here. This required an organic gestation period. Making the commitment to honor that necessity and leave the site undisturbed for a lengthy interim was very difficult for me. But now I'm very glad I saw it through because the lessons and gifts it provided has been nothing short of astonishing. At this time I find that I've come full circle to re-embrace my original intention for Sparkling Lotus-land online. This website is meant to be a space of sanctuary and inspiration for those who want to deepen their connection to flower medicine spirits and the elementals/earth angels who tend plant-based healing spaces. I'm also re-dedicating myself to the mission of encouraging folks to develop confidence and interest in preparing their own flower essences. As times in the larger world shift in ways that make our disposable income a more precious commodity - it makes sense to become self-reliant in this particular way whenever it's possible. Any well-loved and mindfully tended garden space is ripe and ready for co-creative expansion. That's a fact that many commercial essence sources make a point of ignoring. So, straight along as I worked-out my sacred task and specific place in the larger field of vibrational medicine, I've received consistent meditational guidance that I was not to perceive the making of flower essence as a business. For a long time that guidance confused me. If it wasn't a business what was it? I now see that I was asking the wrong question. Instead of what I needed to focus on why. If absolute power corrupts absolutely then it stands to reason that the business of commerce corrupts conditionally. Throughout this year I've grown painfully aware of the ongoing compromises involved with achieving and holding a successful spot in the marketplace. Strange bedfellows abound and self-betrayal is a very real ongoing threat to a foundation of impeccability. Please do not misunderstand: Corruption at the root is not inherently problematic for every small business person who is learning how to operate within the expanded framework of a truly sustainable paradigm. Nonetheless it's been my consistent experience that my personal place in life's great marketplace has very little to do with the business of essence production. Instead it has to do with teaching and honestly sharing my experiences in ways that encourage others to do the same. In the same spirit of generosity, and a sincere desire to be of healing service, it's also necessary for me to remain open to offering essences to those who are simply not in a position to create their own. But it's not necessary for me to promote that secondary purpose of this website's continued presence and ongoing development. Those who will be authentically served by these particular essences for their own highest good will be quite naturally drawn to them. It's my job to continue building faith for that energetic truth. Meanwhile I'll be writing and teaching same as always but with a newly re-connected awareness of my primary purpose and its most organic scope. please stay tuned for more information here on the website, at my blog, and through the subscription service.
